I have been on CCA ( US C. club if you don't know)for some years. The C owners has written lots about how important it is to only use glycol G11 or change to the newer (G12?). If you don't do it they say your top will corrode. Can you use the standard blue-green glycol without beeing afraid there will be serious negative effects?
VW original glycol G11 a must???

Hi Anders,
I´ve changed to G12 because I think the G11 is the main problem of the heater defects of VW! The G12 is special made for the new engines made full out of aluminium (so VW tells us on the bottle) and so it can´t be wrong for the old ones with "steel-blocks".

Hi,
no, you don´t have to use the original fluid!
But what you have to do is to fill a really good quality glycol in your engine! When you use one from a good marque (? I mean a well- known brand) which is made for Aluminium- Engines, you won´t get any problems! But don´t buy the cheapest from the supermarket!Gruß Gandi

Hi!
Okay - 2 Facts!
You mustn't mix the G11 and G12 fluid together - the result would be brown colored corrosive fluid.
You are free to choose between G11 and G12 if you drain the WHOLE cooling system, that include the Heater.
If you're using the old fluid (colored green) you can mix it with every other cooler fluid based on Glycol. E.g. from your local spare part store. But remember - do not mix it with that pink looking "new" fluid available from VW.
Sorry for my poor english

Patrick!
You must be joking! Bad English?
I think you have a very good English, and so have many other Germans here at the corrado site. But the thing is, we don't have to have a perfect language, we understand each other anyhow. As a Swede, my English isn't perfect. For me and you, it's a way to train to be better. I should be very glad if more of you will answer my letters. You see, in Sweden we don't have a C. club .

Hello Anders!
Well, right now, I think it's all said. Like Pjay wrote, don't mix the old G11 liquid with the new G12. If you wan't to change the whole liquid, it would be a good idea to flush the system with clear water and a little bit of vinegar at first (let the engine run some minutes, that will clean up the whole block) and then with clear water before you fill it up. Pjay is joking, you have to be carefull with my poor english - he is just fishing for compliments .
