Exhaust manifold lights up red

  • Hello German Corrado owners...

I am hoping for some help to my loved Corrado G60.

I have bought a Stainless steel tube exhaust manifold. After having it installed and engine had run in idle about 3-4 minutes, the manifold was gat a dark red color because of the heat!!! I took for a ride, but the color waas the same. The engine is except for this manifold, complete in standard condition.

Is this normal???? If it is not normal, I hope you some good ideas and solutions

    Best Regards

    Kenneth Jakobsen

  • Hi Kenneth,

Welcome to one of the greatest Boards for Corrado´s in Germany.

    Regarding your Problem:

Maybe your Catalyst is some sort of blocked, so the outcoming emissions are not able to cross the catalyst fast enough and their may be a "Heat Traffic jam"...

Or one of the new mufflers is blocked. :kopfkrat:

Has the Exhaust system already glowed before you installed the new system ?

    Regards

  • Interior filled with breather oil and the outside is covered with dirt, insects and all kind of filt. Is the car behaving like 160 hp Corrado should behave?

By the way, is there an Edit button somewhere so I could edit my writings instead of making a new posting??

Hmmm... actually I can edit this post, but I was not able to edit the previous??

Yes, it's the button called "Ändern" but only in the first five minutes after posting.

  • Strange 5 min system! But good to know. Because I've been wondering that earlier also. Just tried that Änder button, but it said somethind weird in German... Some one can clean up these messages if you want to clean this topic from off-topic discussion!

  • A glowing exhaust manifold is also caused by delayed ignition. This results in igniting the fuel mixture in or beyond top dead point, which causes the ehaust gas to be still burning while scavenged into the manifold. But is should only be the case if changes have been made on the ignition system.
