Changing wheel sizes

I've finally bought a München registered G60 and was looking to change over the rather ugly wheels for something a little more to my taste.

However I've been told that I need to get TÜV approval for this change as the size of the wheels and tyres will be different ? Is this the case, and if so do I need this checked with a garage or direct with TÜV ?

Also... is it that strict ???

Yes I live in München.. although most of my car work happens in Österreich as i can't find a suitable garage here.

you can change the tires in a garage, but then you ve got to drive to the TÜV. They will check the change and give a OK for the new wheels or not.

Ok, I thought this was the case...

Are there any restrictions on sizes? I had 17x7" alloys on my old Corrado in the UK, running 205/40's

Also any idea how much it will cost ?

17x7 is no problem, but you need a certificate for the wheels that they are allowed to be driven on the corrado.-

Ok.... so what's the process. Do I have to go down to TÜV with the car and get an inspection, or do they have a new "permitted" list that I can ask against ?

Sorry for all the questions, but the system is totally different in the UK.

Hi,
As far as i know you have to go to TÜV and let them check yout wheels. The costs differ. It depends on size of the wheels, if you have a certificate for the wheels (that allow the use on a corrado). Should cost between 50 and 150 bucks.

I would advise you to call your lokal TÜV/Dekra place and just ask, at least that should be free!

The way you schould go...

1. Buy the Wheels you want to have....
2. The wheels must have an certificate/advise. The certificate contains some conditions, which are needed to drive the wheels on the car.
3. You have to keep the condition to get Tüv for the Wheels on the car.
4. To get Tüv, contact your Tire dealer, or drive straight to the Tüv for your self.

Sorry for my bad english. The last school lesson is more than 10 Years ago...

That's a little problem... as I already have a set of 17" MVK10's from my old UK Corrado. Obviously without any TÜV documents.

So the local tyre dealer can also stamp my TÜV form and say it's checked ?

You need a certificate of the wheels you have. Try to order it from the Manufacturer of the wheels.

What kind of wheels you have?

you can try to get a certificate from the wheel manufacturer, otherwise you can put em on your corrado and if everything is ok, the TÜV will make you a certificate, but thats a little bit more expensiv, but im not sure how much...

Well after lots of searching I've found that MVK have no certificates for TÜV approval.

So I've aquired a set of Borbet A's... but have now run across another problems. The fronts are 7,5Jx16 ET35 (which is normal ET for Corrado I believe) however..... I can't find the TÜV paperwork for anything more than the ET20 versions of this. Does anybody know where I could get the paperwork on the ET35 versions, or if the TÜV would be ok with me fitting 15mm spacers (TÜV approved ones of course) to reset the ET to the documented ET20 ????
